“Hippie Dust Mock Popcorn” Super Food Recipe


Here is one of my favorite nutrition-packed recipes that will satisfy anyone’s cheesy buttery popcorn carbohydrate craving!

This simple recipe calls for Nutritional Yeast (a.k.a. “Hippie Dust”), which is one of the only vegetarian sources of vitamin B-12, and is also VERY high in protein and folate. Nutritional Yeast is easy to find at any health food store or online, and it is considered “de-activated”, so there is usually NO need to worry if you suffer from yeast allergies. I was surprised to learn that only ONE tablespoon of Nutritional Yeast will provide a full day’s supply of vitamin B-12, and contains MORE PROTEIN than a LARGE EGG! Sprinkling some nutritional yeast on your breakfast or in your smoothie can improve your workouts and boost your energy! Cauliflower is also very high in vitamin C and fiber. For all these reasons, I consider this snack worthy of a SUPER FOOD title, and it is guaranteed to pack a punch and hold you over nicely until your next meal-time.

Here is the type of Nutritional Yeast we would recommend:

We really enjoy this recipe as a delicious RAW snack, but it’s also very good dehydrated or baked for a more crunchy treat.

• 1 head cauliflower chopped up into small popcorn size pieces (or leave the size of a ping-pong ball if baking)
• 2 Tablespoons of olive oil (or enough to lightly coat all pieces)
• Sprinkle of sea salt (use less if baking or dehydrating since it concentrates)
• Sprinkle of pepper
• 1/4c nutritional yeast
• OPTIONAL: 1 tsp of turmeric and a pinch of cayenne if baking.

RAW: Take all the ingredients and drop them in a mixing bowl. Toss it until all pieces are lightly coated. Eat & enjoy!

BAKED: Preheat your oven to 350. Take all the ingredients and drop them in a mixing bowl. Toss ingredients until all cauliflower pieces are coated lightly in oil and spices. Spread on a cooking sheet with foil or parchment paper, and bake until all cauliflower pieces are light golden brown (20-30 min). Enjoy!
